Mobile is located in Mobile County, Alabama, approximately 60 miles northwest of Pensacola, Florida and 125 miles northeast of New Orleans. Home to a population of more than 194,000 residents, the city is a major industrial port facility for the Alabama Gulf Coast. Popular local attractions include Bellingrath Gardens, Fort Conde, and the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park, home of the legendary USS Alabama, recipient of nine Battle Stars during 37 months of active duty in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of WW-II.

Mobile is home to eight National Historic Districts that feature more than 100 historic homes and buildings, many of which are open to the public. Sites of note include the Bragg-Mitchell Mansion, Condé-Charlotte Museum House, and Oakleigh Historic Complex, a circa-1833 historic house and museum that is one of the rarest examples of Greek revival architecture in the U.S. today.

Known as the birthplace of Mardi Gras, Mobile is home to the oldest Mardi Gras celebration in the country. Beginning late January and continuing throughout the month of February, the streets of Mobile are filled with the sights and sounds of the Carnival season as the various Krewes, Knights, and Orders advance upon the city with parades, balls, cotillions, and various forms of revelry that draw more than a million visitors each year.
